Radziejowice: from a family tower to an artists' palace

The Radziejowice estate belonged to the Radziejowski family from the 15th century, and in the second half of the 16th century the noble village of Radziejewice was recorded in the Mszczon?w district of the Rawa Voivodeship. In 1512 Miko?aj Radziejowski, then Voivode of P?ock, expanded the family's defensive tower. In the early 17th century Stanis?aw Radziejowski built an early Baroque palace visited by King Sigismund III Vasa and later by John III Sobieski. The estate then passed to Count Aleksander Ossoli?ski and, through his daughter's dowry, to the Krasi?ski family, who held it until the Second World War. Around 1800 architect Jakub Kubicki rebuilt the palace in the Neoclassical style and in 1802 turned the old tower ruins into a Neo-Gothic "little castle". Since 1965 the palace has served as a creative retreat for artists.

Radziejowice is the birthplace of Micha? Stefan Radziejowski (1645–1705), cardinal, Primate of Poland and cousin of King John III Sobieski, and of Edward Krasi?ski (1870–1940), public figure, memoirist and the last de facto holder of the Opinog?ra entail. Music critic Jerzy Waldorff was a regular guest here, and a summer festival at the palace bears his name.

Landmarks and local character

The village lies on the Pisia G?golina River, which feeds the palace ponds. Highlights include the Neoclassical palace, the Neo-Gothic little castle, the larch manor, a 26-hectare landscape park laid out in 1817, and the Neoclassical Church of St. Casimir (1820–1823) by Kubicki.
